Ruth Shaw holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University and a Certificate in Gerontology for work in the field of aging.
As an elder in the United Methodist Church, North Georgia Conference, Ruth served as pastor at churches in North Georgia.
After retiring in 1998, Ruth continued to serve at local churches - as Minister of Visitation, and as an interim pastor. After age 80, she continues to preach at every opportunity and often cooks for 25 to 50 family members and friends on special occasions.
Ruth is the author of Recipes, Rhymes and Reflections, Life with Wings and The Chronicles of Ruth. She contributed to and was the inspiration for Y'all Come: Recipes for When You're Hungry for Home. Ruth has read her poetry and spoken on the subject of aging often as a lay person to church and civic groups.
Ruth is the widow of the Reverend Charles C. Shaw who was an Elder and served in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1954 until his death on December 3, 1986.
Ruth began her blog, Ruthlace, in 2005 as a way to record her life stories for her children, grandchildren and future descendents.
